During the five settling-in sessions, you and your child will have the opportunity to become familiar with the nursery environment, routines, and staff. Each session typically lasts for a set period, gradually increasing in duration as your child becomes more comfortable.
In the first session, you might spend time with your child in the nursery, observing and engaging with the surroundings together. The focus is on creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere, allowing your child to explore at their own pace while being supported by you and the nursery staff.
As the sessions progress, you'll gradually step back to encourage your child's independence and confidence. This might involve short periods of separation, with you nearby or in another part of the nursery, while your child engages in activities with the staff.
The settling-in sessions provide an opportunity for both you and your child to build trust with the nursery staff, ask any questions you may have, and ensure that your child feels secure and happy in their new environment. By the end of the five days, the aim is for your child to feel comfortable and confident enough to transition smoothly into regular nursery attendance.
